Snail cream review – The back story.
Snail cream has been gaining in popularity, both as skin ageing treatment and also for prevention of skin ageing.
Surprisingly, the use of snail cream dates back to Greek times.
Hippocrates was said to have prescribed crushed snails and sour milk to treat skin inflammation!
And more recently, Chilean farmers who were collecting snails for the french market noticed their hands becoming softer. These observations have prompted the cosmetics industry take a closer look at snail slime and its health benefits.
It is thought that snails release the slime as a defence mechanism to fend off an attack from predators.
In this article i will submit a snail cream review based on my own research and feedback from users.
Korean Snail cream review – research summary
The research for snail cream comes from laboratory studies where they exposed skin samples , basically slices of skin, to the slime from snails.
So what does the research tell us about snail slime?
Well, it is FULL of nutrients which improve skin health and appearance.
It contains Hyaluronic acid, which is a potent skin moisturiser. It is able to lock moisture into the skin like very few other molecules.
It also contains proteglycans and Glycoprotein enzymes. Both are brilliant for protecting and improving collagen, which is the main building block of skin tissue.
Snail cream is also full of antimicrobial and copper peptides.
All these nutrients help improve the elastin in the skin. Elastin gives skin it’s elasticity and off course the more elastic the skin the more youthful it appears.
These molecules also help to protect and regenerate collagen.
As we get older we slowly lose collagen which is part of the reason ageing skin appears more wrinkled. So off course if you can slow down or reverse this process you will enjoy wonderful looking youthful skin for longer than usual.
Challenges of Korean Snail cream
The first problem we have with snail cream is that the research has been done on skin samples rather than a whole live human being.
Off course, the results you get from skin samples in a test tube will probably be totally different from the results you get from testing the snail cream on a live whole person.
So i would say view the research results with caution for this reason.
The second reason is the difficulty in finding quality snail slime consistently.
As we explained earlier snail slime is full of nutrients, but you need to find high quality slime from high quality snails.
These days, top quality manufacturers actually breed their own snails to ensure this consistency.
And the final issue is the practice of some suppliers where they crush the whole snail to extract the slime., Crushing snails for slime would be unacceptable to the vast majority of consumers.
So uncertainty over the method of slime collection may put off some people. Although, to be fair, this is extremely unlikely in western sourced products due to the robust animal cruelty laws.
And even after obtaining high quality snail cream and slime, the process of extraction and manufacturing has to be off the highest quality to protect the delicate nutrients contained in the slime.
Possible side effects of Korean snail cream
Some of the possible side effects of snail cream include:
- Allergy to the ingredients, particularly the snail slime.
- Anaphylaxis; which a life-threatening but rare form of allergic reaction.
- infection through using a poorly preserved or expired products
Is snail cream good for acne?
The answer is probably yes. Although research on this is sparse, there is some evidence that snail cream does improve acne breakouts, and indeed, it may prevent acne flare ups.
How it does this has not been fully explained but it is probably through anti-microbial actions. As i highlighted earlier, snail slim is rich in antimicrobials such as Copper. And antimicrobials have been proven to help in the treatment and prevention of acne.
Korean Snail cream review – How should you use it?
It is essential you do a skin patch test before using this product for the first time. This will screen for allergies and skin reactions which you may get. Especially since most of us wouldn’t have come into contact with snail slime before, at least since childhood.
Secondly most experts recommend you try this product for a minimum of 2 weeks and preferably 4 weeks, before you pass judgement on it’s effectiveness for your skin.
Snail cream review – my conclusion
I think it is worth trying because it clearly has some benefits. But you really must do thorough research on the quality of the brand because that makes all the difference.
